Kings in the Corner rules
Setup
- Shuffle one standard deck and deal seven cards to each player.
- Put the rest face down in the middle as the stock.
- Turn four cards face up, one on each side of the stock (north, south, east and west). These are the foundation piles.
- The four corners between them start empty: they're reserved for kings.
Your turn
- Draw one card from the stock.
- Play as many cards as you like:
- Put a card on any pile if it's one lower and the opposite color: a black 6 on a red 7.
- Put a king in an empty corner.
- Move a whole pile onto another pile if its bottom card fits on the other pile's top card.
- Put any card from your hand in an empty side space.
- When you can't or don't want to play any more, your turn ends.
Winning
The first player to play every card wins. If the stock runs out, keep playing without drawing until someone goes out or nobody can move.
Tips
- Fill empty side spaces with cards that are hard to play otherwise, like a lone queen.
- Get kings into the corners early: they open up queens for everyone, including you.
- Moving piles to empty a space is often worth more than playing one card.

Frequently asked questions
How many cards do you deal in Kings in the Corner?
Seven to each player. Then four cards go face up around the deck, one on each side, to start the foundation piles.
Where do kings go in Kings in the Corner?
Only kings can start the four corner piles, diagonally between the side piles. Play one as soon as you can.
Can you move piles in Kings in the Corner?
Yes. A whole pile can be moved onto another pile if its bottom card is one lower and the opposite color of the top card it's moving onto. That frees up a space.
How many players can play Kings in the Corner?
Two to four is ideal; up to six can play with one deck.
How do you win Kings in the Corner?
Be the first to play every card from your hand. Some families also give penalty points for cards left: 10 for each king and 1 for everything else.
